RETAILERS

Know your options

If you are approached to sign or renew an electricity contract for your home or business, it is important to know who you are dealing with. Energy company salespeople must wear an identification badge and give you a business card.

Three things to remember if you are approached to sign an energy contract:

1. Always make sure you get a business card and look at the salesperson’s ID badge first.

2. Do not share personal information like your electricity bill unless you are sure you want to sign a contract.

3. Carefully read the contract, disclosure statement and price comparison provided by the salesperson.
